Housing Authority Insurance Group (HAIG) offers $5,000.00 of life insurance, at no charge, to SHA active employees and Commissioners. This policy is underwritten by the Guardian Life Insurance Company of America and the policy holder is Housing Authority Insurance, Inc.  The coverage amount for active employees is reduced at age 65 to $3,250, and at age 70 to $2,500.00. This free HAIG plan is only offered to active employees and current Commissioners, and does not cover retirees or others who separate from SHA employment.

New hires have the option to sign up within 30 days from date of hire; otherwise, you can only sign up during the open enrollment period for this particular insurance, which is in January, and coverage becomes effective the following month, February 1

Beneficiary selection 

Employees can update their beneficiary anytime by submitting the HAIG Beneficiary form to Human Resources.
