Construction at NewHolly, Rainier Vista and High Point shows progress
The Othello Building at NewHolly was completed in February.
In February the last of the rental housing in the final phase of NewHolly, called Othello Station, was completed. This includes the Othello Building, a mixed-use building that includes the International District Health Services clinic.
Also at NewHolly’s Othello Station, the first homes for sale by a private builder, Polygon Northwest, rapidly began selling in February. Bennett/Sherman, another private builder, began selling their first homes at Othello Station this month.
At Rainier Vista, Providence Health Systems’ Gamelin House is scheduled for completion this month. Gamelin House will have 78 units of senior housing on the top three floors. The first floor of the building will house Providence’s Elderplace program, an innovative program of health care and social services for older adults. Other retail businesses will also share the commercial space on the first floor.
Housing Resources Group’s Genesee House received final HUD approval and began construction, with completion scheduled for early 2006. Genesee House will have 50 units of one- and two-bedroom apartments for people with disabilities. It will also contain other retail businesses.
Late in 2004, residents began moving into new units off Martin Luther King Jr. Way S. Over the next two months an additional seven blocks containing 41 apartment units will be ready for occupancy. The remaining rental housing in this phase is scheduled for completion by the end of this summer.
High Point's first rentals will be ready for residents to move in this summer
Redevelopment at High Point has taken a significant step forward with the sale of building lots to local private home builders. Saltaire of Seattle is the first builder to close on the purchase of a building site.
Saltaire will build 14 new market-rate townhomes for sale, designed by Mithun Architects. Construction will begin soon and model homes will open this winter.
The first group of rentals is being finished now for an expected move-in date of early this summer. By April 2006, all 344 new Phase I rental units will be completed.
