Over 1,000 Seattle Housing residents and participants are going to school or job training to get the skills they need for great jobs.  Many Seattle Housing residents and participants have participated in similar Opportunity Workshops, and today many of them are taking college classes or working in good-paying jobs

Opportunity Workshop

A new, free program can help Seattle Housing residents prepare for higher-paying careers

By attending an Opportunity Workshop, you will learn about services available to support your education, job training and employment goal. Then, you will participate in an assessment and individual interview where you will be linked with the services best suited to your individual needs & interests.

These services include, but are not limited to:

  • Opportunity Week: in coordination with the Seattle College District, this forty hour college course is designed to provide participants with education, employment and career information and services aimed at increasing each student’s skills and income
  • Opportunity Specialist: in coordination with the Workforce Development Council, specialists meet individually with participants to provide assessments and individualized planning designed to provide direct connections to education, employment and training

The Opportunity Workshop Team can show you how to:

  • Access free money for college and job training programs
  • Access free money for school or job related tools, certifications or equipment
  • Sign up for individual job search assistance
  • Get resume and job interview support
  • Learn how to earn free college credits
  • Meet specialists to provide ongoing support
  • Receive bus passes for school or job related transportation
  • Get help applying for childcare subsidy and finding a provider
  • Learn about financial planning resources
  • Get your customized workforce assessment and career planning
  • Fulfill hours of Seattle Housing Community Service Requirements
